As you will quickly see ResCom provide's Continuing Education classes both online and in a classroom setting for Air Conditioning Contractors and Technicians and others that have an interest in the proper installation of an HVAC system. 

ResCom has been providing classroom courses for over six years in the Houston Texas area and we pride outselves for offering "Quality Education for the HVAC Professional". 

Soon we will provide information for contractors, inspectors, homeowners and others having a desire to have a greater understanding of how mechanical contractors must approach installations of HVAC systems in dwellings and buildings that are increasingly built to higher and higher energy conservation standards. This in turn has a dramatic effect on the necessary size and quality of installation if the structure owner is to attain the reduction in energy cost that he/she has paid for.


Class 7138: Texas Air Conditioning Law and Rules / International Energy and Mechanical Codes

This class covers:

  • Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors Occupations Code Title 8. Regulation of Environmental and Industrial trades Chapter 1302
  • Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Administrative Rules of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation 16 Texas Administrative Code Chapter 75
  • International Mechanical Code - 2009 Edition; TDLR mandated code as of September 1, 2009 - (Along with the 2009 edition of the UMC)
  • International Energy Conservation Code - 2009 Edition; State of Texas mandated code as of  April, 1, 2011
  • International Residential Code - 2009 Edition
  1. Chapter 11 Energy Code Provisions have been State mandated by the State of Texas effective January 1, 2012 for all one and two family structures.
  2. All other Mechanical Sections of this code are mandated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for use by Mechanical Contractors in one and two family structures.

    In part, this class will outline changes that will required as states and municipalities adopt these codes

    • Blower door testing for new structures. (lowers installed tonnage requirements)
    • Duct Tightness tests for duct systems in new residential structures. (lowers installed tonnage requirements)
    • Make-up air for residential exhaust including range hoods.
    • Programmable thermostats in residential structures.
    • Lockable Refrigerant Port Caps.
    • Load Calculations utilizing both ACCA Manual S and Manual J. (Mandatory Requirement)
    • Increased levels of insulation within structures. (lowers installed tonnage requirements)
    • Lower Solar Heat Gain Coefficients for windows. (lowers installed tonnage requirements)
    • Increased levels of duct insulation. (lowers installed tonnage requirements)

    This class fulfills your required two (2) hours of Texas Law and Rules and six (6) hours of other approved subjects.

    The cost for this class is $110.00

    You will be provided a class manual, pen, hi-liter, continental breakfast, coffee, soft drinks and lunch.

    Class 7181 Texas Air Conditioning Law and Rules / Structure as a System

    This class covers:

    • Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors Occupations Code Title 8. Regulation of Environmental and Industrial trades Chapter 1302
    • Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Administrative Rules of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation 16 Texas Administrative Code Chapter 75
    • After completion of the two (2) hours of required law, the remainder of the class is devoted to understanding how structures have changed over the past few years and what Mechanical Contractors must do differently if they are to achieve a successful installation relevantly free of call-backs. Topics will include but are not limited to:
    1. Manual J load calculations
    2. Manual D duct designs
    3. Manual S equipment selection manual
    4. Manual T air distribution
    5. ASHRAE 62.2 Ventilation Standard for Low Rise Structures
    6. Wind effects on a structure
    7. Stack effects within structures
    8. Humidity control issues
    9. 2009 International Code
    10. 2009 International Residential Code - Energy Efficiency Chapter 11

    This class fulfills your required two (2) hours of Texas Law and Rules and six (6) hours of other approved subjects.

    The cost for this class is $110.00

    Class 7692 Computerized Heat Load Calculations I

    This is a very intensive 8 hour class (limited to 10 students) designed to teach students how to complete block loads (whole structure calculations) within a matter of 10 to 15 minutes with just a little practice. This whole structure calculation is useful for bid and permitting requirements. Students will need to bring a laptop computer to class. Although there are many good Load Calculation Software programs available in the market place, we will utilize Elite Software's RHVAC in this class. A demo version will be loaded on the students laptop for use during the class. ResCom has a limited number of laptops available that would need to be reserved in advance. We will provide an architects scale and Contractors Calculator for use during the class.

    This class does not include (2) hours of contractor law and administrative rules. However, we offer a class that will provide contractors the ability to fulfill this requirement.

    The cost for this class is $150.00
